Buyer asked for refund. Most likely lying

Hi.

I sold 5 laptop PSUs that were brand new. Came boxed with Intel NUC pcs in sealed boxes. Because I did not need the PSUs, I put them on eBay. Sold 4 and no issues but the 5th I receive refund request. Buyer claimed the PSU killed his amplifier and I should bin it. Below is what he said directly to me:

It's killed my amp.

The supply was fully researched and compatible for the application.
I highly suggest you bin it.

Its just one of those things and I am not asking for composition. Please refund me to put towards a new amp.

And below is what he said when he opened the request:

Reason for return
Doesn’t work or is defective
Comments
Unfortunately upon connecting the power supply to my amplifier it is sending rippling (like wind noise) Direct current 2 sub driver so power delivery not clean, possibly a failing capacitor.. 4 contrast I have ben using a chep 1.5amp powr supply that works fine but is obviously headrom limited. The power supply even switched on and not turned up is outputting DC to the speaker. I am glad I didn’t try it on a laptop! The brick was well packed and the lead is new, brick has minor marks. Pops too.

I believe he's trying to abuse the eBay refund policy. I suspect he had an identical PSU and wants to swap it with mine. He said it has minor marks, which wouldn't be true since it was a new one. I sent him pictures with the PSU being packed so I have evidence if that. He even confirmed it was well packed.

Unfortunately eBay only offere me two options: to refund him and he keeps the item, or refund him partially.

How am I protected as a seller? The PSU was new, he used it for something that wasn't designed for.

What should I do?

Thanks for any advice!

Regards,

Razvan

Buyer asked for refund. Most likely lying

You cannot be certain he is lying and that's how ebay will view it.   It is best to accept the return, get the item back and then refund.    If the buyer escalates it to ebay they may force the refund without return.   Put his ID on your blocked bidder list:

You can't give partial refund.

You either refund without return of item or issue returns label and refund in full on return.
