Baffled by Simple Delivery collection and bring label

I can't work out if I can book a collection with Simple Delivery and still have the postie bring me a label. Royal Mail allows me to book a collection but not opt to bring a label. I have the QR code and tracking number from a sale but am baffled how to send it. I'm too ill to trek to the post office!

Ebay's advice on not having a printer doesn't cover how to combine that option with home collection. Anyone solved this mystery? Can't get any sense from the chat bot thing!

"If you don't have a printer, you can bring the QR code to a drop-off location and the carrier will print the label for you. When you're creating your delivery label, you'll be provided with a link to the carrier's website with a list of drop-off locations.

Collection is available for items sent through Simple Delivery with Royal Mail labels only. You can book a collection on the Royal Mail website after you create your Simple Delivery label."

I think you will find that Postman will only bring a label if purchased from RM.

It IS purchased from Royal Mail but when entering the tracking number, there isn't the option to bring a label - just to arrange a collection. Only if I pay for postage does the option to request a label appear.

That is correct.

There is not an option for the postman to bring a label when you use Simple Delivery.

You can book a collection 'when you print your label'.

All the details are here - follow the links and read the FAQs to get the accurate information direct from Ebay.

These are your options if you use Royal Mail:

If you don't have a printer, you can bring the QR code to a drop-off location and the carrier will print the label for you. When you're creating your delivery label, you'll be provided with a link to the carrier's website with a list of drop-off locations.

Collection is available for items sent through Simple Delivery with Royal Mail labels only. You can book a collection on the Royal Mail - opens in new window or tab website after you create your Simple Delivery label.

I managed to get through to eBay who came up with this as a solution, if anyone is in the same boat as me.... : buy another, NEW Royal Mail postage label, arrange for collection and for a label to be brought to you as usual, and the unused postage label they provided will be refunded to your eBay account after ten days. You can update the tracking number to the new one on the system - not easy but I saw how to do it eventually!HOWEVER this  workaround option may not be a permanent feature, said the kind Irish lady on the phone.

I believe that is what Ebay Customer services have just told you but ...

You won't have paid Ebay for that original label.  It isn't like when you buy a postage label from Packlink or supply one for a return which never gets used.

The unused label will have been paid for by your buyer, not you.

Irrespective of what you have been told, I really don't see how Ebay can refund you for something you did not buy.

When they see the original postage wasn't used and see I paid instead via the new tracking number, they can credit me not the buyer.

Buyer paid postage, so if not used, buyer gets refund, not you.

I really don't think that will happen.

The tracking number that will be automatically added will be the one for the Simple Delivery label so changing that will be an issue.

If what you state regarding getting a refund was possible, then it would be a 'get out clause' for all sellers and Ebay are insisting that SD will be mandatory.

Can you clarify what will happen if sellers pay for postage themselves even though their buyer has paid Ebay directly for Simple Delivery, please?

Hi @jckl1957 ,

Refunds for unused Simple Delivery labels go back to who paid for them. If the buyer paid for the postage then the refund automatically goes back to the buyer. If free postage was offered and the seller paid, the refund automatically goes back to the seller.

Collections can be booked through the Royal Mail on their website. However, the bring a label service is currently not an option. eBay is working on adding this as a feature.

In situations where the buyer paid for the postage and users normally use the bring a label service due to accessibility issues and not having access to a printer they can apply to customer support for a refund if they have paid for their own label. This needs to be requested through customer support and proof of postage is required.

Thank you,

Kat
