Am i covered?

I'm a irregular seller so please help.

A few weeks ago I offered a sovereign for sale. I accepted an offer of £840. I followed the Ebay link and arranged for the Royal Mail to collect my parcel from my home address. To cut a long story short  Royal Fail have stated that the parcel has been lost.

The fact that you listed with Simple Delivery and a starting price of less than £750 means you may be covered by simple delivery seller protection.

The only way to know would be for the buyer to claim item not received and then you see if ebay takes over the claim.

That depends entirely on the service you used to send the coin.

Did you use an Ebay Simple Delivery label with 'Marketplace Seller' on the label or did you buy the postage from Royal Mail website or through Ebay/Packlink?

Unless you used Simple Delivery (the tracking number will begin 'YA ...' ) the only RM service that would cover a gold coin is Next Day Special Delivery.

The listing shows a starting price of £840 but an accepted offer of £500.  Are those figures correct?

You sold this coin on 17th January. We don't know when you dispatched it, but please remember that the buyer has only 30 days from the latest estimated delivery date to open a case under eBay's money back guarantee.

If they haven't opened a case yet I would suggest that you advise them to do so promptly. If it was sent through eBay's simple delivery system eBay should be responsible for refunding for non-delivery.

If the buyer misses eBay's 30 day time limit it's unclear (to me, anyway!) what would happen if they instead filed a credit or debit card chargeback against eBay. You would be then normally be responsible for refunding eBay, plus, plus their admin fee.

In this situation, would eBay still meet the cost themselves because the loss occurred during their own simple delivery? Or would they take no reponsibility because their money back guarantee had expired? I don't know. Perhaps other responders do?
