I have just received an irate message from the buyer of some Vintage Chanel talc (discontinued now) that I sold while clearing some of my elderly mother’s stuff which included many Chanel items. I researched the packaging carefully and believe it to be genuine as it ceased to be sold in this particular container at the end of the 80s. Unfortunately no outer box. Some of these are listed for c£100 plus. Mine sold for £25.
The buyer is comparing it with a more recent version with more “bling” and has opened the one I sold, poured out some of the contents and disputes it’s genuine. They have sent a photo comparing the two. I’m very upset at being accused of this and I clearly listed with info about this packaging manufacturer.
Will eBay force me to accept it back even though they have sent me a photo of it with the contents tipped out? Can they just say it’s fake and I have no chance to dispute it? What if it’s sent back damaged or empty? Buyer says they will not discuss it further and has requested a return or refund.

I'm afraid if they open a case for item not as described you will have to accept the case and refund, if you want the item back you pay for the fully tracked return postage, and refund only when the item is back with you.
That's how eBay's 30 day MBG , Money Back Guarantee works, and it's no point challenging it at that point as case are all automated, no human contact.
When you receive the item back , if you think most of the contents are missing or it's in a different condition to that sent out, you can appeal the decision for the refund, link below explains the process.
I won't agree it's easy to appeal, as eBay do not see the item, and if this one was around 40 years old, then it's reasonable to believe most of the original scent has changed or disappeared.

"When you receive the item back , if you think most of the contents are missing"
Unfortunately impossible as OP sold used talc as new.

I don’t think I did but will check. I did weigh the contents though and included a photo on the scales in the listing to show that it was virtually full.

I did list it as “New other” which I would say described it well as in it may be missing original packaging or may have minor defects, but I do take your point.
my description was thorough regarding the condition.

Gosh, there’s so much vintage cosmetic stuff on eBay I hadn’t realised that. Much of it selling for over £100. I believed this to be unused but not with original box. It looks as though I’ll have to refund in that case.
