A Bad Experience With A Buyer

I sell mainly records and I recently stupidly sent out one wrongly, the correct artist but the wrong record. On being informed by the buyer I immediately sent out the correct one and I asked him if he would return the wrong one if I sent him the money for the return postage which he agreed to do. I sent him the money but since then despite many messages I have had no reply.

He has kept the record and my money and I think that he is being dishonest. This is not how ebay members should behave and I just wonder if there is any point in me reporting him to ebay. I would be interested to hear peoples' views on this.

Ebay won't be interested in this buyer's behaviour, and there is nothing they can do about it.  What you should have done was asked the buyer to open a case for item not as described and return the wrong one.  Then he could have bought the right one and all the systems would have been straight and your loss would have been limited to the return postage (and any difference in value of the two records).

My view is that sometimes we make mistakes and it costs us,

Thanks for the advice and I'll try to remember to insist on the correct procedure if this happens again. It was the buyer in this case who told me to send him money so that he could then return the record but only after receiving the correct one from me.  What would have happened if he had opened a case and then refused to return the wrong record until he received the correct one from me? What would ebay do in that situation I wonder?

He would then be stuck with the wrong record and no refund.

The whole point of using correct procedure, is that if buyer does not use the return label you send, then you do not have to pay for label and buyer does not get a refund.

You only refund after item has been returned. Buyer cannot complain about no refund, unless he can show proof of return to you.
