verifying posting of returned item.

I have agreed a return, printed postage label, and posted the item. I can't seem to be able to find anywhere to verify that I have posted the item. Please help.

Have you opened the relevant case in the Resolution Centre?  Then if you have used a pre paid return label sent by the seller,  on posting it,  it immediately registers the tracking number into the case details.

This now gives the seller 5 days to refund you.  If they do not,  escalate on day 6 , and eBay will step in and force the refund.

If you have used the pre paid label provided by the seller, then on posting, the tracking is immediately registered into the case the buyer has opened.

Escalate on day 6 if not refunded beforehand, if the option is not there then it will definitely be on days 9 - 21, you must then escalate if not refunded beforehand.
