update bank details

having been asked by ebay to update my bank details, ive received an email telling me my direct debit will go out as normal-- what direct debit, ?? i did not have a "normal" direct debit with them, as i do not buy or sell that often

at no point when asked to update bank details was i aware i was setting up any kind of direct debit, and do not want to have inadvertently signed up for one. It was made out to be payments would go directly to my account not through paypal-avoiding paypal fees

this all seems very unclear at best- underhanded at worse, and trying to contact ebay, you just get sent round a cycle of help topics with no clear way to directly email them

any help/advise greatly appreciated
