Any clues how one can get one's money back as it appears a rip off

If it was cancelled on ebay (you would have received a confirmation email) the refund is automatic.   The money will return to the source of the original payment. If you used your debit card, with or without Paypal, the money will return to your bank account in about 7 days. Credit card refunds return to card in up to 30 days.
