hi i was the third bidder on an item but only put a small bid in the item came up with me as the winning bid which was three times more than i had bid so i am very puzzled as to what has happend here as there was a forth bidder (after me)
Possibly the higher bidder retracted theur bid after you had seen it?
Go to the item and click on bids. You can see how many bids there were and how you ended up winning.
