DRS are not obviously scammers. They are a debt recovery firm, one of several which eBay has used to recover unpaid debts.

You should treat this seriously, and not disregard their letter, but act with caution.

My suspicion is that eBay has mistakenly given DRS your contact details for another member's debt. We received at least two or three similar questions last year.

In your position I would not disclose any further personal information. However, if you do not owe eBay this money I would reply in writing by recorded delivery letter to say so.

Please try to explain clearly why this alleged debt is mistaken. For example, if you have never received any previous payment request from eBay, either as a buyer or a seller, say so. If you did receive and pay an invoice for this amount, provide dates and references.

A debt recovery firm cannot take any action against you without a court order, so it's in both your interests to clear up any misunderstanding before it reaches that stage.
