Hi
I am using the firefox browser and I regularly have problems access pages linked from ebay message centre. The problem concerns links which references a page on 'rover.ebay.com'. This often prevents me from replying to message or taking up special offers. My browser refuses to access anything on 'rover.ebay.com' with the message:
Secure Connect Failed.
... ...
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
...
From what I found this relates to the security certificate being servered by ebay. I guess it is serving a certificate for 'ebay.co.uk' from a link to 'rover.ebay.com'.
Stangely it doesn't always happen. By that I mean sometimes the 'same' link brings up a page from 'contact.ebay.co.uk' and sometimes 'rover.ebay.com'.
I haven't figured out what the pattern is here ie why I sometime get one url and sometimes the other from what seems to be the same link in the message centre.
Update. I now have an offer I would like to take up but every single link within that message references 'rover.ebay.com'. So I can't reverence the offer or the seller or anything else referenced.
I work in I.T and don't believe this is an issue with my browser but an issue with ebay's security certificate management. I certainly don't intend to change my browser to one with more lax security settings to get around poor coding or process managment by a multi billiion pound company like ebay. This issue has been floating around the web for years and ebay continually fails to shed any light on it or fix the problem with their links to 'rover.ebay.com'
Any advise gratefully received.
Always worth clearing your browsers cookies and cache by holding down the Ctrl shift and delete tabs all at the same time to bring up the option.
Make sure your browser is upto date.
Use a different browser like Chrome or edge for ebay, both are free to download and you can have/use more than one browser
