missing refund

I recently purchased some sunglasses, these were not as described.I requested a return with the seller and this request was refused so I followed the next step this was also refused and case closed.

I couldn't and still can't understand why my original return was refused. I am a seller and in my experience learned that handling returns and refunds doesn't need to be escalated when you communicate.

I have since opened up a case with Paypal as Ebay keep telling me they cannot do anything I need to speak to the seller, since opening the paypal case the seller has finally responded and was not happy, she insists that the money never reached her account and she accepted the refund and could I send the sunglasses back tracked 48 (at my expense) which I have. She has acknowledged that she has received them but still insists she cannot  help me any further in a rather stern message. Paypal are reviewing my case....

Can anybody advise? Or have had this experience? I am so dissapointed by the way Ebay has handled it.

Your mistake was to make an ordinary return request, which the seller would have been entitled to refuse if their policy is not to accept returns. You should have opened a money back guarantee case instead, which would have guaraneed you a refund, but eBay does not allow you to open more than one case for any item.

Assuming that you paid by payPa, you can still still file a dispute under Paypal's longer, 180 day buyer protection policy, see: https://www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/article/what-if-i-didn%27t-receive-my-item-or-it%27s-not-as-adve...

Unlike eBay, PayPal requires the buyer to pay for the return postage, unless you first register for their (free) "Return shipping on us" service, see: https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/refunded-returns
