messages to seller not sent

Has anyone tried sending seller a query and not had it sent? I'm 100 miles away and tried to facilitate collection as I'd be making a special journey on a Buy it now. Previously all message woudl be viewed in both my normal email and messages. Thsi time, no message is seen in my messages and not having a reply from seller, I don't know if they've even got my message? 

Ebay keep kessing about with their site and this really is like throwing a curved ball, or am I missing something?

If you asked the seller for their address you will probably soon receive a warning message from eBay, reminding you that exchange of contact details is prohibited before a sale is completed. This is to prevent buyers and sellers making private deals to evade eBay's fee.

You could try sending the seller another message, but don't use any key words like contact, address, phone number which eBay's robotic scanner may treat as prohibited content. If this the information you wanted, you must leave it until you've won the auction.

Making a round trip of 200 miles to collect an item is always risky. We often hear from frustrated buyers who find that the item isn't as described!

if your message contained contact details or asked the seller for his contact details ebay won't have sent it,

as you are not allowed to exchange contact details before a purchase is made.

ER...Nope. What I said is what i did. Nothing more. Nothing less. "I would like to collect Sunday if that is acceptable" I don't have seller's details. Seller does not have mine. That's what's so puzzling. I've written to Ebay directly for an explanation (Yes, I know. pigs will fly). More significantly, in the past, fi an error was made, Ebay advise that they are blocking etc. That's what makes this odd. No info at all. Ho hum

you haven't bought the item yet, so ebay would see that message as trying to do an 'off ebay' deal, so the message won't be sent

Now that IS indeed a possibility...As ever, however, truth as ever is stranger than fiction. The message had been sent! Seller was away and didn't respond till after sale had ended (and I was the winner!)...yet still no record of it is showing.
Anyway, thank you all for your input and support.
