posting this to help others. I received an 'easy returns' email once I purchased a used IPhone 6. When the phone arrived, it didn't work properly and so I printed off the label, completed the easy returns dialogue box, and sent the phone to Stockport on 22nd January. It arrived there on afternoon 24th January, no acknowledgement by 29th January - and no refund...
I had a lengthy webchat with eBay customer support recently about how easy returns is meant to work. They told me that the buyer needs to get in touch with them when tracking shows that the item is back with the seller and eBay will then refund the buyer direct and then bill the seller (and refund the seller's fee). So if you haven't yet told customer support that you have successfully returned the item, try that.
Sellers haven't a clue as to how the process works because there is no information provided to us. I only found out that a buyer was using easy returns because she messaged me to tell me as a courtesy, but the whole point is supposedly to make it easy for buyers by removing the need for them to deal directly with the seller if something has gone wrong.
