eBay reps contradict one another

What do you do if eBay reps absolutely contradict one another?

I bought an item which was grossly mis-sized.  As the seller offered a blanket refund policy, I was unconcerned until I received his official Returns Note.  It was made out to AMAZON RETURNS  with the name & address of the returner being someone & somewhere entirely unknown to me.  It was not even the seller.   I asked an eBay rep to contact me.

I was told this was absolutely wrong & I should not return the item & that an eBay return should not be to Amazon Returns in someone else's name.  There were said to be a number of selling policies being breached, which eBay would look into.  I was advised to wait for a week, then contact eBay again if I had not received an appropriate returns note.

I did this to-day.  In a total about face, I was told this was fine & that I had to return the item with the original returns note, which was perfectly acceptable to eBay, waiting another week thereafter for my refund.  In vain, I pointed out that this returns note WAS NOT IN MY NAME - how was I ever going to prove it HAD been returned?  I was given no explanation for this complete reversal of instructions.

Anyone know who is right?  Any advice on what I should do?

IS THERE ANY WAY TO CONTACT EBAY FOR THEIR OPINION in writing?   No email addresses even!

to cover yourself open an eBay not as described case and follow it through - any tracked pre-paid returns label you get through the case covers you.
