eBay ps5 scam

I see alot of people selling pictures of the ps5 for high prices it seems they are trying to fool buyers in to buying the pictures thinking it's the real thing is there anyway eBay can do something about this?

There were reports last night

I put in PS5 and there were 80+ selling a photo rather than the item

I emailed one seller and asked if it was a photo they were selling

Yes so dont bid on it if you want the actual ps5 😉

It has a bid of £173 and that was the cheapest. Some were in the hundreds 

I do expect some of those bidders are fake bidders too

Buyers to need to take some responsibility and read the descriptions properly

I'm sure there is, but will they do it, even if they can?

You can report the listing, but even if eBay acts on your report all they will do is remove that one listing.

If one member here can find 80 other examples within minutes, so could eBay.

This is the company that uses intelligent scanning to check every single message between its millions of members for atempted fee evasion. They could use exactly the same techniques to identify many common and copycat scams as they arise. But they don't.

Time and time again we see the same old scams being recycled here, but eBay doesn't seem to care.

Some may be scammers but not all.   

A lot of those sellers were selling the PS5 as a pre order .      They did not even have the actual item to photograph as its only very recently been physically available  to them in the UK.    So a lot had to use stock pictures. 

Have you seen listings that say its for a picture only?

I have just checked and yes you are right over £300 for a picture.    Yes Ebay need to stop this as some will be misled 😞

I may contact Ebay CS later for their opinion when i have a few minutes

Thank you for the reply there are some that day photo in the description
but want £100s for them and have had bids this seems like a scam to me
seems like they are hope people don't check the description

There are going to be some very upset angry members when these come off.

Some are bidding you are right ..thinking its for the real thing. Also i do believe that when using the App often a lot of the details are missing. Some members are obv taking exception to the listings and one was pushed to over 10K before the seller realised and ended it. At one time Ebay did not allow the sale of just branded packaging and boxes (Pandora and expensive watch boxes as an example) but they appear to have done away with that rule lately so it will be interesting to see how they view this latest "scam"

Seller's are not supposed to be allowed on listing's like this saying that its only for picture. and most reports are reviewed within 6 to 24 hours. If you don't see any action on your end by then, please understand that many actions aren't visible to others. To protect the privacy of all of our members, we're unable to share the action we take.

If we decide to take action, we may send the member a warning, remove the listing, or limit the member's buying or selling privileges. We usually won't suspend a member's account unless we decide that this member refuses to change their behaviors after we ensure they are aware of any violations they have committed.

I looked at one of the sellers who has listed under 11 different accounts
Same flooring and same furniture

I expect those that have very large bids are just playing a game with them and would not pay anyway
It has happened before

I did suggest to Ebay CS that the listings should also come under price gouging and why......and she is passing it on to a few different departments . As usual its a case of wait and see but at least i tried.

in theory the seller could also be stuck with a load in fees if they dont know what they are doing 🙂
