I have a potential buyer who is interested in my sale item and would like to view before purchase, but we cannot exchange contact details in order to arrange this because ebay will not allow it.

Yes indeed; you understand the situation perfectly!  With the exception of "classified" listings eBay [motors ...] does not permit viewing prior to sale.  Do you have a question about that?

you need to add your phone number to the questions section, then the buyer will be able to contact you

go here:-

and tick Share your phone number

They will have to buy but not pay then you can give contact details and arrange payment on collection
