By "secretive, autobididng scammers" do you mean bidders who leave their bids until the last few seconds?
If so, there's nothing secretive or scamming about it. Many bidders prefer to leave their bids until the last minute. Apart from anything else, this is a precaution against sellers who shill bid, i.e. use another ID to bid on their own auctions to push up the price. They're not going to risk doing this a few seconds before the auction ends, or they may end up winning their own item!
The rules are simple. The highest bid wins, whether it was placed at the start of the listing or near to the end. Not everyone can follow auctions end in real time. Many prefer to program an autobidder (snipe program) to place their bid just before the auction ends.
If you have been outbid, and would have been prpared to bid more, you should have done so. EBay's automatic bidding system would have kept you on top unless someone outbid you. If they did, you would have accepted that you lost the auction fairly to a buyer who was prepared to pay more.
what are you on about?
the whole point of ebay is they auto bid for you until you either win the item or are outbid!
you are supposed to decide the maximum you are willing to pay, the absolute max, and then place one bid,
the auto bid system then kicks in and the highest bidder wins, no matter when the bid was placed.
