Why can't I cancel my bids

Due to financial reasons I no longer wish to bid on an item and when I go through the process of cancelling my bids and get the message that all my bids have been cancelled when I go back to the item in question my bids are still active!!! What is going on? Regards, Toby.

Ok, the character assassination was not necessary but thankyou for the speedy if not obvious reply! I am notified that my bids have been cancelled days before the end of auction, yet my bids still stand till the end of the sale. There is an error somewhere!
