What do I do if the buyer is saying an item is damaged but has provided pictures of something else

I sold a brand new pair of trainers still with the tags on, the buy is now claiming they are used and sent back pictures of this beat up pair of trainers! These are not what I sent. It sold via GSP. I don't believe these photos are even the buyers am I within my rights to ask for tagged pics of the damaged trainers so I know it's genuine?

this feels like a scam as I'm guessing it will be expensive to have the item shipped back to uk so the buyer expects me not to bother.

Please help

Is a huge risk selling Designer Trainers on here. As you have speculated you will receive an Old Pair back.

That is certainly a possibility. Other sellers' experiences show that the reassurances to sellers in eBay's money back guarantee are likely to be meaningless in practice.

Several have told us that eBay's response to claims that items had been returned damaged, or even swapped for another one, was that as eBay didn't see the item the seller delivered, or the item the buyer returned, "they are not in a position to take sides and verify who has the valid complaint". In every case, eBay's idea of not taking sides was to apply their default policy of finding in the buyer's favour, and requiring the seller to refund them!

For overseas sales the problem for sellers is even worse, as we are beginning to hear that eBay is now enforcing the requirement for the seller to arrange and pay for international returns, at least from the US and parts of Europe.

Basically, eBay seems to have become a place where criminals can buy items knowing that eBay's money back guarantee is so open to abuse that they can easily get their money back and keep the item for free.
