I can no longer view sold items. I can search for sold items, but when I click on one to take a closer look, I just get taken to something similar or completely different even - to an auction that is currently running. Is this a new policy?
Yes. I've just found you can view the original listing by clicking on "listing" in "The listing you’re looking for is no longer available", top left of the suggested item.
