VAT on sales

Hi

I am a registered business seller who is NOT VAT registered (due to 12 month rolling turnover never exceeding the threshold).

I import from China and always pay 20% VAT on my consignment value at point of import + 4.7% excise duty & my consingments always total well in excess of £1000.

I was under the impression that wef 1 January 2021 that VAT would NOT be added onto any of my sales due to this having already been paid (as the consingment exceeded £135 in value) at import.

However, all sales today have resulted in 20% VAT being charged to the customer which is obviously going to affect my sales moving forward. Other sellers who are selling a similar product who are also business registered & not VAT registered do not appear to be suffering from this VAT charge as I have added their items to a basket to see what happens and NO vat is added.

I have tried to speak on e-bay chat to THREE different advisors and got absolutely no where & i was left with the impression I was being fobbed off on each occasion, as clearly none of the individuals understood their subject matter.

I have set the VAT to 0% on the listing but it still charges buyers 20% at point of checkout.

Would be incredibly grafteful if anyone could give me any advice on this?

Thanks
