Using 2FA with Ebay UK

I have been using two factor authentication (2FA) with the Symantec VIP android code key generator and a regular password for over six months on my UK ebay account and my wifes UK Ebay account. Last week my wife said she could not log in. I found I had to disable the 2FA, and then I could log in with just the password. Later that day I checked my account and had to do the same thing.

Is there a reason why Ebay UK doesn't want us to use 2FA with them ? Is there a new way to set up 2FA, so they have disabled the old method ? 

I know officially that 2FA was not supposed to work with Ebay UK, but I found that:

1. To add a 2FA key to an account that has never had one, log in to the account and go to https://signin.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ActivateSecurityToken
2. When you have a 2FA key, it will appear in My Ebay/Personal Information/ Security Information. Note that "Security Information" doesn't exist until you have carried out step 1 ! That took some finding....

Any new ideas ?
