I really should know better.
i won an item today and because the little basket icon displayed a "1", I clicked on it and checked out via the shopping basket.
Now I keep getting alerts showing I still have an item in my basket - which of course shows as empty when I click on it.
What a dreadful system. I have never come across this sort of thing on other shopping websites.
