Stuck verifying phone number

Hi! I accidentally left my VPN on while buying something, and now ebay have blocked me from buying anything because they think there's suspicious account activity. They want me to verify my phone number but when I click 'Place call' it keeps saying 'Sorry, we are currently experiencing technical difficulties and are unable to complete the process at this time'. I've tried several times over the past two days with no luck. I tried contacting customer support, but there was no-one available to message, and I'm not able to talk to them over the phone. I wish there were a way I could just send them an email for them to reply to in their own time, like any other site. Can anyone tell me why I can't verify my phone number? It seems like it should be a simple issue to resolve.

This is why ebay don't like VPN, they can't verify who you are.
