Some listings are automatically going to 29 days with no option to revise the listing time?

All items listed  in a  Buy it Now / Fixed price format,  are listed Good till Cancelled.  This means they relist every 30 days until sold,  or when you manually end the item.

If you wish them to stay on for a shorter duration,  simply end them on that designated time.

There is no 29 day listing, it is a 30 BIN, but as soon as it starts it would show 29 days 23 hours 59 minutes.

If you want other periods 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days then you have to use auctions, and don't tick the automatic RENEW link.

You can never amend the lingth of an auction or BIN after te first hour I think, but you can end any listing at any time. If you have bids however you will be charged.
