Selling fees

I have recently sold items on eBay but when I look k at them the difference between the selling cost and what I got was nearly a 3rd less then i received another invoice from eBay for selling. After post and packing paid for I have received only one third of selling price and that does not include petrol to go to the post office. Is this usual

It is no good complaining about how little you receive, you should work this out in advance and allow for costs in the price. If you can't do this then is it worth selling.

Before even starting selling it should be obvious that you need to know the fees payable, neither ebay or paypal work for free.

The money that is taken straight away is paypals fee for processing the payment,

ebay invoice for their fees after the sale.

Paypal charge 3.4% (3.9% for overseas payments) plus 20p

ebay charge 10% of the total - item price plus P&P, as well as any listing fees you may have incurred

You'll pay for any applicable listings fees, plus eBay final value fees at 10% on both the item price and the postage price shown on your listing.

PayPal take 3.4% play 20p (3.9% if an international payment).

PayPal take their fee as soon as you receive your payment, eBay take theirs at a later date.

Go to your My eBay>Account to view a breakdown of your invoice.
