Seller wants me to pay ebay using buyer protection scheme. Is it safe.

If it is a car, SCAM! There is no ebay protection for cars, no matter how you pay.
Go see car in person, inspect & pay only if happy, in cash.
Only ebay protection you have is ebay MBG, there is NO other legal way.
You pay for item through listing, not any links or anything,
if in doubt, do not pay.

So long as it is not a vehicle, you only have the Protection of the MBG if you pay through ebay check out,using an approved method of payment.
"pay ebay using buyer protection scheme" That wording if used by the seller is rather disturbing, you don't pay ebay, you pay the seller using the Ebay Checkout.
