Seller asking me to mark as paid even if my account states "wait for payment"

Hello, 

I am a new seller on ebay. I listed my first item yesterday and it has been sold. The buyer is telling me he has paid, however my account still states "wait for payment". He asks me to "mark as paid" and says that it is a normal process for new sellers. I told him i would double check first. 

Would the system confirms it is paid once it is, i understand thay paypal can put payment on hold for new sellers.

Your item is a typical scam target so you need to be careful.  If you have been paid, even if it is on hold, you will receive email notification addressed to your real name, not your ID.    You will not have to mark as paid.

If you have any doubts about the buyer it is better to cancel the transaction via More Actions, far right of the item on your sold list > Cancel order > Something wrong with buyer's address (they may ask for the item to be posted elsewhere).   Or if you're on seller hub go to the Active listings page, select the checkbox next to the item you want to end and from the dropdown menu select End item.
