Scammer saying different item received

Anyone who has any knowledge please help

We have sold an item on eBay in good faith only to find out the person is a scammer

He has sent pictures of a different box and contents but also a picture of the box we packed the item in. This seems to imply different item inside was received but the box size is different to ours abs weight will be a clear indication of fake claim.

Buyer has to open a case though ebay otherwise you can just ignore him.

Either he expects you to just roll over and refund or is not aware that he must open a case.  The thought of involving ebay may put him off from proceeding, especially if he is not aware how heavily ebay favours the buyer whether he is genuine or a scammer.

He has requested a return now

He states reason not as described and put

‘ Seller not ship my order (coffee machine) but they ship the shoes. I need
to return”

He sent pictures of two different boxes
Top of the blue bubble wrapped box we sent and then a different box with a
pair of black sandals inside with tissue paper.
Another picture shoes two pairs of sane shoes on floor on top of a flat
packed box.
Additional placed loosely on top of our box shows zip code for Missouri and
a hand written name. So someone forwarded to him in US.
I raised to eBay

You issue returns label through case, only has to be for UK address, if item was posted to USA, then buyer has to pay their own return costs.

No I am not agreeing to return
He’s scamming me to return shoes which I didn’t send then to force me to
refund cost of coffee machine £550

He seems to have links to Thailand and US

Basically I could end up losing coffee machine (which by now yes sold) and
money I too!
eBay said they are investigating
why should I refund a scammer?

The problem is ebay never item, but believe buyer. I hope ebay decide in your favour, but don't be surprised if you lose.
