Royal mail to Canada

Hi,

Someone in Canada is interested in an item I'm selling; they have asked if I'd send it with Royal mail as it's cheaper than Global Shipping.

Has anyone on here had any trouble sending to Canada through RM & is there anything else I should be aware of?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

2 things.

If item is listed as GSP, you can't send direct, will need to opt out of GSP & relist item with your own postage.

Under new VAT rules started on 1st July, you have to include electronic IOSS when buying postage online, can NOT be done at PO.

Global is expensive but they do deal with all the Paperwork and Buyer pays all costs up front, however in my opinion it is always far better to deal direct with your buyers. Assaid buyer must be aware that there may be Canadian Import Duty to pay and if like in the UK the postal service or Courier who deliver may make a charge for collecting the duty.

Just make sure you quote postage for a TRACKED SERVICE that covers you for the value of the item. It is the buyers request so he must accept any further charges he has to pay in Import Duty and Collection Fees.

You will - of course - need to provide a customs declaration on the parcel but there are no obvious pitfalls.  You simply take it to the Post Office and use a tracked service!   The thing that the buyer must be aware of is that as an importer he may well be liable for duty and tax from the Canadian Customs.
