What happens if a dishonest seller falsely claims that a returned item was damaged by the buyer?
Usually nothing
The buyer continues with the not as described dispute in the resolution centre and gets their money back.
Ebay would say they do not see the item and almost always goes with the buyer
Take no notice of what the seller says just continue with the dispute
The buyer having opened the case must escalate it ["get eBay to step in"] as soon as possible.
It is - in any event - impossible for a seller to know where or how the damage occurred. Could have been in the postal system at the very least.
In any event it's irrelevant
