When I tried to respond to a message, by making an offer, the offer window only allowed me to key in 3 digits, eg £100 and not the £1000 I tried to enter !
it did not allow more that 3 digits !

Did you enter the £ symbol? Where you using the usual offer form, as you would not be replying to a message with an offer.
