Refund

I paid for 2 items with my debit card.I returned them as they were damaged.I put a note in,whichsaid i paid by debit card.This was may.As i had not recieved a refund,i cotacted the seller .I was told the refund was sent to paypal.I do not have an account with paypal.

I have tried to speak to someone,but its all automated.

But HOW did you return them?

All returns and refunds need to be requested and made thrugh eBay's resolution centre. EBay processes the refund and will return this to buyer's original source of funding.  Putting a note with the returned item is pointless, eBay won't even see it.

If you simply wrote to your seller asking for a refund the arrangement for paying it is between the two of you. If they had the email address you use for eBay they probably assumed that you had a PayPal account, and made the payment payable to it. If this is what happened, someone here may know how they can get it returned if it isn't claimed. Otherwise, you could open a Paypal account with the same address and claim it yourself.

Assuming the seller has not yet been switched to ebay's new managed payment system they will have received your payment via their own Paypal account.   The refund will also be via Paypal but the money will return to your bank account.   Takes about 7 days to get there.

All refund go back to scource so if it was from your debit card it will go back there but can take up to 7 days

If a credit card it can be up to 30 days to show on your account

If the seller was not on managed payments then the money has to go through some banking system to get to your card and that would be paypal

You dont need to have a paypal account for that to happen

When you pay at eBay checkout using a credit card the payment is dealt with by Paypal.  If the payment has been sent back then the money will be returned [by Paypal] to your credit card.  It is said to take a while [up to 30 days?]
