I recently sold an item for a friend and it went for just over £100 which was a bargain price. It was brand new, never opened and cost around £250+ The buyer decided it was not as he thought and eBay agreed to a refund, I tried to sought this but the buyer was adamant he wanted a refund. I have never had to refund someone before and suddenly I got a notice saying he declined my offer and I had to give the money back. I therefore did this and to date have not received the item back. I have contacted the buyer and he said that he received a note saying I did not want them back and the refund went through, I have never sent a note saying that so is this something ebay just do? He has said they are no longer new as he is using the item. I have asked him to return them he won't and he won't give me any money for them. How can I get help with this as it is totally wrong what he is doing? Many thanks
All refunds should be made through eBay's resolution centre, and using eBay's procedures for cancelling, returning and refunding items.
If you refunded the buyer yourself before they returned the item I'm afraid that will be the end of it. EBay will not get involved.
You would be surprised how often we are asked what to do when a fails to return an item after the seller has refunded them. Next time, you will remember the basic rule: no rerturn, no refund.
And the second basic rule: never sell for friends!
