Fire Hazard - 20/30/48 LED Solar Powered PIR Motion Sensor Wall Security Light Garden Outdoor

I am trying to alert eBay to this incident so they can set a safety warning but how?

This solar light was on an East facing (not South facing) wall so just the morning sun for a few hours. As you will see from the pics, the rechargable battery has blown with such force it  popped the plastic off the side.  Slightly concerning as I live in a TIMBER framed house. Lucky me.

EBay will not set a safety warning. They will tell you that this is entirely the seller's responsibility. If you read the user agreement you will see that eBay states that they do not guarantee the existence, quality, safety or legality of items advertised;,or the truth or accuracy of descriptions. Would you buy from a shop which stated this on the door?

If the seller is a UK business seller, report it to trading standards. It's almost certainly a cheap import from China that doesn't meet UK safety standards. You wouldn't be the first buyer on eBay to have an electronic device burst into flames or wreck whatever other device it was connected to.

If you imported this direct from a seller in China they are beyond the reach of UK laws and there is nothing that trading standards can do. If the seller has a UK distribution base it's worth reporting it. Even if no legal action can be taken, trading standards might be able to seize non-compliant items.
