Hey
Can someone help
I am looking at an item. Listing shows as £6.88
But when I add to cart the price changes - any one have any ideas? and Basket price is now £8.26
Is this just me - or does this happen to anyone else?
the seller is in the Channel Islands so I assume the extra is VAT
I can't find the seller's address anywhere in the listing. However, they're registered with eBay "in the United Kingdom", but the Channel Isles are not part of the UK. Perhaps eBay just treats them as such?
In any case, there is nothing in the listing to alert buyers that purchase from this seller will require 20% VAT to be payable on the price. All eBay sale prices within the UK are required to be inclusive of VAT, where payable.
This is not a very satisfactory situation. Unless I've missed something in the small print, I don't think that the position of the Channel Islands is mentioned in eBay's guidance on VAT: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/paying-items/paying-tax-ebay-purchases?id=4771&st=12&pos=3&query=...
If you have the patience it would be interesting to ask eBay for an explanation, but I doubt whether you would get a meaningful answer.
