It has just become apparent to me that ebay are charging a percentage on the postage fee. I think that this is actually a disgrace. I charge a very reasonable postage rate which barely takes into account the packaging costs and the costs for getting to the post office. Bearing in mind that Paypal fees already are applied across the full amount, this becomes a significant amount.
This is a manageable situation when I am printing my own postage labels via ebay and paypal. I suggest that when you do the online postage label via ebay or paypal then this amount should not be subject to charges.
Not sure how I am supposed to add a comment to the replies so having to edit my original post...
I was not aware. I can't believe I didn't know this. Anyway, if one posts item using the ebay print label option then surely ebay can see exactly how much the postage has cost you and exclude that amount from fees. A simple bit of software could achieve this. Hey Ho!!
I don't examine every item on my invoice unless I suspect its wrong. I pay attention to my monthly fee amount. Maybe I just need t add 10% to postage amount. I presume ebay no longer puts a limit on postage charge that you can apply.
eBay changed their fee structure about 3 years ago and now charge a fee based on the total money changing hands. This brought them into line with Paypal, who charge based on the total money being transferred. The eBay system used to exclude p&p from the fee calculations but too many sellers were abusing the system by selling for 99p and charging ridiculous prices for p&p, and I do mean ridiculous prices, in order to avoid eBay fees.
The current system is fair - all sellers are now paying the same.
