Paypal payment via friends

I was tricked into paying for an item via a Paypal 'friends' request for the amount. There was an issue with paying when i bought it and the seller sent a separate request. Unbeknown to me this is not linked to Ebay when this happens. Item never arrived and unable to contact seller as they are no longer on Ebay and Paypal email address for them doesn't work.
I have emailed Paypal as this is obviously fraud but now realise this happens to others. How do i stand getting anywhere with this please? Can't believe people do this and steal others money.

Nothing you can do if you didn't Bid through the Ebay Listing and Pay directly using the PayPal Link. If the Seller Is a UK Registered Business Seller you can ask Citizens Advice for help.

Bidding was through Ebay and item was won. When trying to pay i received a message saying this seller is not accepting payments at present and to contact them. I did this and they said this problem should have been sorted! They then said they would send a request for payment. I just presumed it was all linked and legit. Then received a message from Ebay saying the item had been removed due to suspicious activity and to file a dispute as they could see payment had been made. Unfortunately i cannot do this as although the item shows in my purchase list, it doesn't let me choose it for any actions. Also,  they are no longer registered with Ebay so unable to dispute anything against them as it just keeps saying they are no longer a registered user 😡😡Sent from my Galaxy
