Over 17% commission on final value including postage, no insertion fees, thats a swindle!

Im 85 yrs old & clearing out small items, so that other people can enjoy them.  I sold an item for £6.89 including postage of £2.89.  No insertion fees. Its supposed to be 10% commission.  Why did I get charged £1.18 ie 17.2%??????

EBay's fee will have been 10% of the total price, including postage.

Paypal charges 2.9% of the total selling price including postage, plus 30p.

That comes to exactly £1.18, which is what you have been charged.

If you're on the new managed payments system it will be calculated differently, but the result will be the same.

you are now on ebays managed payments

so you are charged 12.8% plus 30p, which is less than you were charged previously when you were charged 10% by ebay and 2,9% plus 30p by paypal

the new system means private sellers pay less than before

You are now on managed payments, those fees are not 10%.  They are roughly 13% plus the 30p fixed amount charged on each transaction.  That takes the fees on low value sales up substantially.
