New Rules on VAT/Import duties when sending to overseas from UK

As Ebay continues its quest to take over the world by trying to now control not just our sales & payments but also how and where we post items, I thought id take this opportunity to make UK sellers aware of some truths/untruths.

If you are happy to pay the extra fees and put yourself in the hands of the Global Shipping Programme (despite this introducing a 3rd party into the transit of the item and the argument about who is responsible if it gets damaged -e.g.  its was delivered to the UK hub undamaged, but arrives at destination damaged, who pays?  Have a  guess?) .... Prior to Brexit, local overseas duties & taxes were dealt with by ebay, and the address included a code that told customs the duty was paid for places such as USA, Australia, Canada etc.

A recent misif from Ebay informed us that the relevant customs code for items sent to EU countries would be handled by Ebay if you were part of the Global Shipping Programme, if not then you could purchase the label from Ebay because the PO in UK would not accept hand written code numbers.   Being polite this is just not true.  I checked with the PO and have subsequently sent parcels to the EU with the hand written code on the label without any problem at either end.

Im sure there will be many opinions about the pros and cons of GSP but I just thought this bit of information may be of help to those of us who dont follow the crowd

You have a nice day now ya hear 🙂
