You can earn points when buying, but not spend them outside UK.

Funny, but there’s no mention of that restriction I can find in the terms
and conditions.

I wasn't aware of it until the other day when someone else had same issue.
Maybe because Nectar is UK promotion, they only pay £ sterling.
