My winning bid is no more as item removed from sale

I made the first bid on an item and recieved an email confirming that my bid is currently winning. But then a day later I've noticed that the item has been removed from sale/no longer available. I've now recieved an email from eBay explaning the sale has been cancelled; but upon looking at the bidding history of the item there is no reason or explanation given by the seller. I didn't know that sellers could retract an item from sale once bidding had started. Plus there is no explanation - surely eBay would need the seller to provode one?

The item remains the seller's property until sold. They can remove it from sale at any time.

If an item is removed from sale after bids have been placed the seller will be penalised for withdrawing it, and will be charged fees based on the price bidding had reached.

It has probably been removed by ebay

They dont give reasons.

Maybe the item was reported for some reason

It is disappointing but there is nothing you can do about it.
