Message amount limit - is this a sign of a hacked account?

I keep getting this message when trying to respond to a seller. I am not a prolific writer of messages so not sure what is happening - does anyone have a similar experience and how was it resolved, please?

"You've exceeded the maximum number of messages you can send. Please wait 24 hours to send more messages."

not the sign of a hacked accout, just eBay limits.
