If I buy a new TV from a business seller on Ebay, with a 5 year warranty, if there is a fault, who would I refer to, and would this depend on when any fault occurred? Thank you.
EBay provides a 30 day money back guarantee for most items sold here. After that they have no further interest. PayPal buyer protection lasts for 180 days, but only covers faults present on delivery. Neither will get involved in warranties or faults that occur in use.
Otherwise, any responsibility rests with the seller. If they're a UK business seller you may have some statutory consumer rights, but enforcing them for items bought on eBay may be difficult or impossible. Even manufacturers' warranties are liable to be invalid for items bought here.
You could consult trading standards or citizens advice, or consider using the small claims court or the Courts and Tribunals internet-based money claim service: https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome.
If the seller is abroad, there's unlikely to be anything you can do. Good luck, but buying from unknown sellers on eBay is not like the shops.
