Make me an offer process.

I recently made an offer on an item which was also being auctioned.  I received a counter offer with a 47 hour time to respond.  I did so well within the time scale but no matter what I did I constantly was directed to a blanc page - no message or explanation.  I gave up and purchased the item at auction but had to pay well over the counter offer by the seller which I was going to accept.  Anybody know what might have caused this.  Can I appeal?

As soon as a bid is made any offers or counter offers are cancelled. I assume that before you could accept, a bid was made.
