Item never received, Riyal mail agreed lost, no refund off seller

I ordered an item that showed delivery by Royal Mail. However, it was never received. After contacting Royal Mail they confirmed that it was not delivered to me but instead incorrectly delivered. I was given a claim reference that had to go to the seller, as they had posted the item, for them to claim the refund. I have since had no response from the seller to my numerous emails apart from an automated 'the item has been delivered'. I do not have it or a refund. Apparently my order is not covered under the eBay guarantee, no idea why.

do I just accept the lost money and give up? I don't know where to go from here.

The sad situation is that if a RM item is tracked [or scanned at doorstep] as delivered [even to the wrong address] then eBay regards the case as closed.  I'd be surprised if RM "knew" that an item was "misdelivered".   

I have difficulties with the concept as wouldn't 90% of us if we get something like that simply give it back to postie or return it to seller [if return address shown].  I wouldn't want random stuff delivered to my house hanging around!

I thought the same, but they must have kept it. RM said they could see the
rough location it was delivered to and so could confirm it wasn’t at my
address. They were no more help than that. Just said that the seller had to
claim for the lost item. No idea if they claimed or not, but I’ve never
seen a refund.

Where did you read your item is not covered by eBay's 30 day MBG ?  From the seller?  Then they are lying.  Only digitally sold items  and vehicles are not covered,  so doubt Royal Mail is involved here!

Just open that case for item not received in the Resolution Centre,  escalate on day 4 if not refunded beforehand.

Do not close the case early on any exuse or promise from the seller,  and do not forget to escalate.

Any claim references is for the seller to chase up for their compensation,  you just open that case and escalate on day 4.

I can’t open a case because the item is showing as delivered by Royal Mail
and the seller has confirmed this. Item is not with me. Message came from
eBay that not covered, didn’t think that was possible.

If the item was delivered to the address the seller received to post to from eBay, and tracking showed delivery, then yes it would close in the seller's favour. Sorry but cannot understand how RM confirmed it was delivered to wrong address, if so, it is then posted back to the sender.

Royal Mail are apparently unclear where it was delivered to. It was
delivered but they confirmed it wasn’t to me.

The item does not have to be handed over to the actual recipient, the name on the parcel, just to the correct address. So if the item was sent to the address you have registered in your eBay account, and the seller has tracking to prove this, the case will close in their favour.
