Item condition

Particularly with used Tablet Computers, item description seems now universally stated as "Item condition is used". This needs to be stopped. It's sharp practice designed to deceive the buyer. If I wish to purchase a second hand item, my decision to proceed generally revolves around condition and price. "Item is used" is not an accurate description of the item's condition, it's merely an indication that the item isn't new.

Why does it need to be stopped?. If an item is not new it is used.

How does it deceive.

That is just a guide and the description should give all the information you need to know about the actual condition of the used item.

EBay requires all items sold here to be categorised as new, used, refurbished, for parts or not working etc.

As you correctly say, this isn't a description of the item's condition. It isn't meant to be.

Providing a full item description which mentions faults and with good photos is up to the seller. Many sellers provide excellent descriptions, others hardly seem to bother. This is just in the nature of eBay. Wise buyers will be selective and buy from sellers who have good feedback, and describe their items properly.

Used: An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or an item that has been returned to the seller after a period of use. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections
