If I set a reserve will the bids still show on the item

Yes, they will show, but as "reserve not met".

When someone bids high enough to reach the reserve, their bid will automatically rise to show that it has been met.

Do you relly want to use a reserve? Buyers don't like reserve proces, and they are very expensive: 4% of the reserve price, payable in addition to other fees, and whether or not the item sells.

It's usually cheaper and better just to start the listing at the lowest price you would acdcept.

Thank You for your advice I don’t think it is worth setting a reserve but I
just wanted to find out exactly how it works.



I have a potentially valuable item I have listed The Art of Star Wars Galaxy
Tray cased Deluxe Signed Limited Edition 972 of 1000 which is signed by 14
artists (they do appear to be genuine signatures although I don’t have a
certificate of authenticity but the item is of such good quality that I
think it would have taken too much effort to produce a fake of the high
standard it is) there are some of this limited edition listed online with
very high prices such as $2500 I don’t think it is worth that much. I have
listed mine for £750 I don’t think there is any chance of getting than much
for it, my problem is how low am I willing to go before I would being a Star
Wars fan just decide to keep it. The problem is I have never sold anything
as expensive as this item on eBay before so I am not quite sure how to
encourage some bids without going too low and ending up wishing I had got
more money for it.



At the moment I am thinking just drop the price by an amount for each of my
following free relistings until I reach the minimum I will accept.



Would you consider that the best way to proceed.

Yes, you will see all the bids.  It will say "Reserve not met" until one reaches it.  There is a non-refundable fee for reserves so you still pay even if the item does not sell so usually it's better just to make your start price the minimum you want to get for the item.
