I can't write anything in contact seller box

When I choose to contact the seller, a box appears to write in, but after one letter it goes grey and prevents any script.

There are ongoing problems with messages

Ebay know but nothing seems to change

You could try writing the message then copy and paste to the message box and see

if that works but it may not

Why do you need to contacf the member
